What is the role of the cavernous sinus?

The cavernous sinus plays a crucial role in venous drainage from the brain, making it essential for maintaining proper blood flow and pressure within cranial structures. Situated on either side of the sella turcica, it collects venous blood from various intracranial sources, including the deep facial veins and the veins of the orbits.
